Synchrony & Emotional Sharing

The Rhythm of Relating: How Emotional Sharing Emerges From Interpersonal Synchrony in Movement, Physiological and Neural Activations.

Due to pandemic restrictions, the project, led by Prof. Dr. S.L. Koole at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, faced significant modifications from its original plan. Despite these challenges, the team, including Mr. C. Ryan, N.A. Janssens MSc, and S.C.F. Hendrikse MSc, successfully conducted one experiment on emotional sharing, analyzed several existing datasets, and performed computer simulations of interpersonal synchronization. The project also extended its impact through the organization of art/science installations and a summer school for university students. Over the course of the project, which runs from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2025 under the NWO Open Competition SSH research programme, the team published six papers and contributed to 8 conferences.
